It is the process of experimenting in printmaking that appeals to me. I use a full range of printmaking techniques including solar plate etching, drypoint, trace monotype, collography and woodcut.
I begin my mixed media prints by making an observational drawing that I translate into a solar plate etching. I combine that etching with marks made with a variety of materials, woodcuts and textures that I have created, on the printmaking press. I juxtapose my natural and abstract images to create a composition where they interact through movement, color and form.
My monotypes and flower prints record a moment of exhilaration in
response to natural imagery. I translate these moments in line and texture while focusing on capturing the vibrancy and energy of my subjects.
